Day 71 Thursday 30th September San Salvo to Foggia by Hazel

Away from San salvo and the lovely Benedetto family.
Onto the Adriatic highway. The sun is hot, the air heavy. Diesel fumes clingfilm my lips.  Along the road there are younger and younger girls sadly waiting for lifts to no where.  Cars dropping them back to our laybys nearly run into us so quick to rid their car of their now used woman.
It's the saddest stretch of road any of us have encountered.
Then as I pass Alice on a hill there's a "ping" and another snapped rear wheel spoke.
The nearest town is San Severo which we have been warned about; with it's light fingered heavy handed residents.  Weight redistributed from my bicycle to the others and we pedal cautiously on.
Outside San Severo we all share the sentiments intended by our prewarners of the town having seen more girls and now the roadside littered with dead dogs. So we press on to Foggia.

In Foggia the only hotel wiith rooms available tonight is an extortianate four star, so luxury padded Walls and floor to ceiling mirrors it must be. At least the bikes are safely ensconced in the hotel laundry.
